Abstract

A sulfonated acacia-derived carbonaceous catalyst with an acid density  of about 3.0mmol/gwasdemontrated efficient catalytic activity in the dehydration of glucose that derived from acacia wood sawdust into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. The process was achieved9 %yield in mixtures of water and iso-propanol at 100-160oC. Low-temperature processes for the preparation of 5-HMF were  sucessful while using a wood-derived solid acid catalyst for conversion of the glucose derived from the same source is sustainable production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural for biofuel additives.
