In this contribution, the efficient adsorption of the anti-cancer drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) onto ZIF-4 synthesized via a solvothermal approach was reported. The synthesized material exhibited an exceptional 5-FU adsorption capacity of 314.4 mg g-1. Full characterizations of ZIF-4 were conducted using modern analytical techniques, elucidating its high crystallinity, thermal stability, and porous structure. The N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms at 77K revealed a specific surface area of 417.7 m2 g-1. Batch adsorption studies demonstrated that the process best fits the Langmuir and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, indicating a monolayer chemisorption mechanism. These findings highlight the potential of ZIF-4 as a highly promising carrier for high-capacity drug delivery applications to support the anti-cancer therapy.
