Abstract

Tay Nguyen red mud, solid waste from the aluminum production process from bauxite ore, contains a number of metal oxides such as iron oxide, aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, titanium oxide... Metal oxides in red mud are modified, recovered and can be made into adsorbent materials for environmental treatment. The aluminum oxide content in red mud is about 13%, was determined by the XRF method (X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy). In this study, the amount of aluminum oxide in red mud was separated from other oxides, and the resulting material was calcined at 600oC for 3 hours. Aluminum oxide gamma material was analyzed for structural characteristics using X-Ray, BET, SEM methods. The result showed that the adsorption capacity of Pb(II) in water environment at pH 6.0, the adsorption equilibrium time is 120 minutes and the adsorption capacity for Pb(II) of the material is determined according to the method Langmuir isotherm reached 38.27 mg/g.
